Pittsburgh Stock Brokers: Update for Wilson & Company

Sunday featured the cancels of Wilson & Company, with its frequently seen clean CDS strikes on 1898 dollar value stamps.  Malcolm Goldstein wrote in with a small find from the 1900 R. L. Polk & Company and R. L. Dudley's Pittsburgh, Allegheny City and Allegheny County Business Directory  The directory provides a different office address for Wilson & Company than the one in the letter shown in Sunday's post:

Wilson & Company is shown at 208 Ferguson Block, in a directory listing of Pittsburgh Brokers.  This confirms Mr. Wilson was involved in some aspect of the brokerage business.  The "Ferguson Block" address is also a common one for those involved in broking and finance in Pittsburgh at the time.

Further, David Thompson found a photo from 1898 of the "Pittsburgh Stock Exchange", showing a portrait shot of a bunch of men without their names added.  It is not clear from the original website whether these were members of the exchange.  It is possible that Mr. Wilson is sitting among them.  I am fairly certain that a few of the gentlemen in the photo will feature in the cancels that will be posted in the coming days.
