Sir Rowland's final journal entries waxed with anger and regret over the treatment meted out to fiscal philatelists by their smug postage collecting colleagues: "Back of book is a label given by the pompous and conceited, falsely secure in the superiority of their corner of the hobby. The United States would have hardly become independent over the issue of mere postage, and the UK hardly a loser in that war of independence.
